Jayfeather is a blind, sometimes bad tempered medicine cat who is one of the three that will save the clans from the dark forest (place of no stars). When Jayfeather was a kit, (Jaykit), his mother's sister, Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, and his siblings, Lionkit and Hollykit, used to guide him and he took it as them wanting his advice and stuffing it in his face. He was really annoyed. 

When the three earned their apprentice names, Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw. Hollypaw became Leafpool's apprentice. Jaypaw got Brightheart as a mentor, and knew that Firestar thought that Brighteart could help Jaypaw of his blindness. She lost her eye and ear when she was an apprentice by dogs from the old forest. Hollypaw eventually feels like she is better off a warrior, then Jaypaw takes her place. His siblings earn their warrior names later. 

When there was green cough in the camp, Jaypaw earned his name, Jayfeather, by Lionblaze (Lionpaw) sneaking into Windclan territory and taking catnip by a dream Jayfeather had to find it. Leafpool was impressed.

In The Last Hope, his siblings and Dovewing search for the fourth cat that will save the clans. Jayfeather thought it was Mothwing. Lionblaze thinks it's Hollyleaf (Hollypaw). Dovewing thinks it's her sister, Ivypool. But they found out it was Firestar. Firestar loses his last life by his wounds after defeating Tigerstar, Thunderclan's worst enemy. Brambleclaw rises to become leader.
